Sean's Week On Twitter

This is the first SWOT post, Sean's Week On Twitter. What will become a series of weekly posts highlighting some of my favourite articles that I have shared on Twitter during the week and why.         Do your Marketing and/or Social Media efforts actually move people? Great article by Mitch Joel of Six Pixels of Separation about how marketing should be about art and the act of "moving" people in an emotional sense. I loved this article as it resonates very much … [Read more...]

Going Down

When the largest provider of website analysis goes down what can you do? Many commercial providers will be shouting: "That's what you get for using a free service!" but all services go wrong, paid for or otherwise and I know who I would rather have fixing the problem. It does raise an issue that many, including myself, toil with. I consider myself  "Old School" when it comes to the Internet and many of the services on it. As a proponent of Google products, YouTube, Wordpress, Flickr, Twitter … [Read more...]

Small businesses are always asking me, "How do I get to number 1 in Google?", invariably my reply is, "How much are you willing to spend?", with a wry smile of course. I do have to remind myself that even now in today's switched on world there are lots of businesses that still don't understand how search works. And to be fair why should they, it's not what they specialise in. One of the ways to ensure favourable positions within Google or any other search engine is to focus on a niche … [Read more...]

Facebook Places a how-to for businesses

Facebook Places

Facebook Places still isn't available in the UK at present even though there are rumours that it is being tested. Unlike Foursquare, Facebook Places is likely to take off fairly rapidly in the UK when it is released due to the large Facebook user base. backlinking ebook

After my last few posts on SEO I thought there was a piece missing and that was the how to from all of this. The part most have trouble with is gaining backlinks so I thought I would try to do a quick guide to gaining quality back-links for your web site. Search engine positions are largely driven by backlinks. Having a site that is search engine friendly helps and I would suggest that any business give thought to why they shouldn't be using Wordpress. Google will determine the quality of a … [Read more...]

Creating something from nothing in a web sense is a bit like alchemy, where you don't really start with nothing but that the "something" you do have is not quite tangible or in the right form. So what do you need to … [Read more...]
